With around 2.7 million inhabitants, Chicago is the third largest city in the United States. It has been one of the most important trading cities since the middle of the 19th century, since it is not only located at important railway junctions but is also connected to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean by waterways. You can reach the city quickly and easily via the Chicago O'Hare International Airport. From Germany there are non-stop connections with Lufthansa and United Airlines.

Almost 50 kilometers of sandy shores on Lake Michigan with numerous beaches, parks and hiking trails limit the 77 multicultural residential areas of the city. Chicago, one of the greatest cities in America, offers its visitors unlimited possibilities - world-class architecture with breathtaking skyscrapers, countless jazz and blues clubs, excellent shopping and cultural attractions. Chicago's motto, Urbs in Horto´ - the city in the garden - has become a way of life and Chicago offers a huge range of leisure activities. Since Chicago is the most pedestrian-friendly city in the USA, you can stroll to your heart's content and then enjoy the good cuisine in one of the many excellent restaurants.

Sports enthusiasts will get their money's worth in Chicago. Numerous professional teams are based in Chicago. Visit a baseball game from the Chicago Cups or the Chicago White Sox or a football game from the Chicago Bears during your stay. A Chicago Bulls basketball game is sure to be an experience in the winter season.

An absolute highlight in Chicago is a visit to the Willis Tower, the tallest building in Chicago. The observation deck is on the 103rd floor. If the waiting times there are too long, the viewing platform on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Center is a good alternative.

Chicago is famous for its renowned museums. These include the Art Institute of Chicago with the world's largest collection of works by French Impressionists such as Monet or Renoir. You can also see works by Picasso and de Kooning in the modern museum wing. Also worth seeing is the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum Campus with the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium. The largest science museum in the western hemisphere is also located in Chicago - the Museum of Science and Industry.

The breathtaking Millennium Park in the northwest corner of Grant Park with its almost 40m high silver concert shell and many garden restaurants is a kind of open-air museum for modern design. Free concerts take place here regularly. In winter there is a skating rink in Millennium Park. Grant Park itself is reminiscent of Versailles and has the world's largest fountain - the Buckingham Fountain. The historic Route 66 starts nearby.

Night owls can end the day in numerous blues and jazz clubs or in one of the many partly award-winning theaters in the Downtown Theater District.
