Kennebunkport is a small town on the coast of Maine that is particularly
known as the summer residence of former President George HW Bush. Around 3,500
inhabitants live in the village. The town was already populated from 1629, but
the city did not get its current name until 1821. It is located on the Kennebunk
River and was formerly primarily a fishing and shipbuilding village, the history
of which you can learn more about in the Brick Store Museum. Kennebunkport has
been a popular seaside resort for about a century and many prominent guests are
welcomed here every year.
There is a small neighborhood in town with souvenir shops, art galleries and
restaurants where, as Kennebunkport boasts, you can try the best lobster in the
world. The Seashore Trolley Museum is also interesting. It shows you different
means of transport from several decades. North of Walkers Point, George HW
Bush's summer home, is Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport's most beautiful sandy
beach. On a boat tour you can see the city and the surrounding state from the
water and with a little luck you can spot whales.
Highlights in Kennebunkport
