Andorra is an independent nation in Southern Europe. With the capital city of Andorra, Andorra 2020 population is estimated at 77,276 according to countryaah. According to tradition, Karl conquered the great Andorra from the Moors in the 8th century AD, but the true origin of the principality is disputed.
The small country was placed in 1278 under the sovereignty of the Spanish bishop of Urgell and the French Count of Foix. The latter’s rights passed in Henry IV to the French crown in 1607. The two regents had almost feudal power over Andorra. The system was abolished during the French Revolution of 1789 but reintroduced by Napoleon. Andorra is still paying a symbolic fee, a so-called questia consisting of ham, bread and wine for both heads of the republic.
