Ebenezer Baptist Church
The Ebenezer Baptist Church is considered a milestone in Georgia’s history. It is part of the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site and is the church where father and son once preached non-violence. It was founded in 1886 and was an important starting point for civil rights activists during the Civil Rights Movement between 1955 and 1968. Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic cathedral on 222 East Harris Street in Savannah. It is the mother church of almost 90 administrative districts in Central to South Georgia and was opened in 1896 after a construction period of 23 years. The building was almost completely destroyed by fire three years later, but is now – more pompous and elegant than before – towering over the roofs of the historic district in Savannah.
Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta
The first Eucharistic Mass was held at the Cathedral of Christ the King in 1936. Since then, the church has been the contact point for around 1 million Catholics in Atlanta. It is located in Atlanta’s Buckhead District, right between East Wesley and the Peachtree Way on Peachtree Street – popularly known as the “Jesus Junction”. Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Augusta
The Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Augusta is also known as the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The former Catholic church was built by the Jesuits around 1900, but had to be closed almost 70 years later due to modernization work and was included in the national register for historical sites. The building stood empty for about 20 years and became a focal point for vandalism and graffiti. Today the building is mainly used for cultural events and celebrations.
Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Atlanta
The stately and striking Sacred Heart Basilica is located on Peachtree Street in the heart of Atlanta and is said to be one of the most beautiful basilica in the United States. With its construction in 1898, the original Catholic basilica was replaced by St. Peter and Paul, for whom the area around Peachtree Street became too commercial. The Sacred Heart Basilica in the Neo-Romanesque style has hardly changed since its construction. Congregation Mickve Israel in Savannah
The Jewish community Mickve Israel has existed since 1733 and is one of the oldest congregations in the United States. The New Gothic style synagogue with many Victorian features is the only one of its kind in the USA and a rare example of a sanctuary of this architecture. Atlanta Georgia Temple
Approximately 3.5 miles north of Atlanta is the Atlanta Georgia Temple, the first Mormon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be built east of the Mississippi River. The temple opened in 1983 and is located in Sandy Springs in Furlton County. The almost 30 m high temple is the 21st temple of the Latter-Day Saints Church in the USA and was the first of seven Mormon temples that were built in the southeastern United States.

Grant Park

The park first opened its doors to visitors in 1916 and has since become one of the most popular amusement parks in the southern United States. Six Flags Over Georgia is located on the Chattahoochee River in Crobb County, west of Atlanta. The almost 1.2 km² park offers its visitors a total of 40 attractions, including 11 roller coaster and 4 water rides. The two roller coasters Mind Bender and Goliath are particularly popular. Wild Adventures
Wild Adventures is a water and amusement park located approximately 5 miles from Valdosta in the south of the state. Rock City
Rock City is an attraction in the states of Georgia and Tennessee on Lookout Mountain. These sights are well known in large parts of the USA because they are advertised on the roofs of farms along the highways with the simple slogan “See Rock City”. This lettering decorates over 900 farm roofs in 19 states. In Rock City, visitors will find a hiking trail that leads up to the High Falls. The path is surrounded by various gardens. The High Falls waterfall is not a natural waterfall but still has a remarkable fall height of 42 m. The highest point of Rock City reminds a little of the Schrammsteine in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony and you should be able to see 7 US states from up there.

Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain is a large granite rock in Georgias Stone Mountain Park near Stone Mountain, a suburb of Atlanta. It is the largest exposed granite rock in the world and the second largest monolith after Mount Augustus in Australia. Stone Mountain is 513 meters high; its top, a plateau, has a circumference of about 8 km. However, Stone Mountain is particularly known for the bas-relief that is located on the north face of the mountain. The memorial shows Generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee as well as the only President – from 1861 to 1865 – of the Confederate States of America and southern leader in the Civil War Jefferson Davis (1808-1889). The relief is the largest of its kind in the world. Stone Mountain Park is also one of the most popular state parks in Georgia. A visit will be worth it in any case.
Sapelo Island
Off the coast of the state of Georgia are a number of smaller and larger islands such as: Queens Island, Wolf Island, Doboy Island or Commodore Island – to mention just a few. Particularly worth mentioning is the approximately 70 km² island Sapelo Island. The island can be reached by ferry from Darlen in about 20 minutes. Gray`s Reef
Gray’s Reef Gray is part of the Gray Reef National Marine Conservation Area, which manages a further 14 shelters. The area was protected in 1981 and is one of the largest offshore reefs in the southeastern United States. It is located approximately 33 km from Sapelo Island and is an important habitat for fish and other marine animals. However, the species vary according to the season, as the reef is in a transition from moderately tempered to tropical water. The approximately 58 km² area is characterized by numerous reefs and rocky outcrops, which can be up to 20 meters high.
Providence Canyon State Park
Providence Canyon State Park is a 4 km² park in Stewart County, on the border with Atlanta. The Providence Canyon is also known as Little Grand Canyon and is considered one of the seven wonders of Georgia. It is a popular visitor destination, especially when the sun rises or sets, as the colors of its pink, red and orange floor come out particularly well. The canyons of the canyon are up to 50 m deep, but they were not created naturally, but are due to human fault. The erosion is said to be due to poor farming practices during the 19th century.
Ellicott Rock Wilderness
The Ellicott Rock Wilderness Conservation Area was established in 1975 and covers an area of approximately 33 km². The Ellicott Rock Wilderness encompasses the area around the point where the states of Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina meet. The Ellicott Rock Wilderness Reserve is the only one of its kind that spans 3 U.S. states. The Chattooga River flows through the area.
Tallulah Gorge
One of the most spectacular canyons in the east of the United States is Tallulah Gorge, a nearly 3.2 km long and 1 km deep canyon of the Tallulah River in Habersham and Rabun County. Tallulah Gorge with its numerous cliffs is a popular place for climbing and hiking, but mountain bikers will get their money’s worth here. Many small paths lead up and during the period when the gorge does not have water, it can even be climbed with a permit. Waterfalls of North Georgia
Northern Georgia is known for its myriad waterfalls and dramatic backdrops that are a prominent feature of the geography of this region. Annually, millions of visitors come to the region, which is the focus of tourism and recreation in Georgia. The state has around 125 waterfalls, almost two-thirds of which are in Northern Georgia. Most of them are in Banks, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Habersham, Lumpkin, Murray, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, Walker, and White County. The Cherokee already called this mountain region “Land of the Thousand Waterfalls” – the land of a thousand waterfalls. Okefenokee Swamp in Waycross
The Okefenokee Swamp is a swamp in Ware County in southern Georgia on the Florida border. The peaty moorland covers an area of 1,770 km², most of which is located in Georgia and is protected by the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The Okefenokee Swamp is one of the seven natural wonders of Georgia, because the area is the largest black water swamp in North America, and sometimes in the world. Several boat tours are offered daily through the peaty wetlands, on which alligators and other rare animals in their natural habitat can be observed.
