The Shoals, Alabama
The Shoals area is located in northwestern Alabama. It is home to many of Alabama’s famous attractions and a musical center of the south. There are many sights of American music history, especially around the town of Muscle Shoals and Florence on the Tennessee River. The most famous testimony to this is still the FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals. A total of over 350 million records were sold, which were recorded here. Among them are artists with such sonorous names as Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding. A studio tour should not be missed on your visit! Another musical highlight is near the FAME Studios: the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. See exhibits of the greatest Alabama-based artists such as Lionel Richie, The Commodores or Nat King Cole. North of the Tennessee River is the WC Handy Birthplace Museum. Handy was the “father of the blues” and numerous artefacts of his life can be admired here.
There is also a lot to do in the region apart from music. So z. B. the birthplace of Helen Keller is one of the main attractions. The deaf-blind writer learned to deal with her illness here, and performances take place every year from early June to mid-July, showing Helen’s daily disappointments and the miraculous breakthrough with the help of her teacher Anne Sullivan. Also worth seeing is the Rosenbaum House, one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous private houses. At the time, it was supposed to be a benchmark for cheap house building and thus make the American dream of owning a home possible. Muscle Shoals also has two Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses that are world class. Don’t miss the area surrounding Muscle Shoals.
