Nevada is nothing more than desert? Wrong thought! With an incredible variety – from metropolitan areas like Las Vegas to natural highlights like Lake Tahoe and Death Valley to exciting adventures like driving on Highway 50 – you can experience a lot here.

Nevada is a state of extremes. Today, the U.S. state is primarily known as a desert area and for gambling, which was legalized in 1931 during the Great Depression. In addition to the Reno, the gambling paradise Las Vegas in the far south of Nevada is of course famous. Already in 1859 the wealth for Nevada was announced by the discovery of extensive gold and silver deposits. This gave Nevada the nickname “The Silver State”. Gold prospectors and traders settled in this region. In many abandoned ghost towns, you can still trace the wild times.

Nevada comes from the Spanish word “snow”. And you can find it in the best quality in the north of this seventh largest state, around Lake Tahoe. There you have the choice between seven first-class ski areas, two of which are in Nevada and five in California.

But nature in Nevada is also absolutely worth seeing. The Great Basin National Park in particular is a popular travel destination. Other worthwhile goals include B. Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire and Death Valley National Park. Sports enthusiasts will also rave about breathtaking climbing and cycling tours or exciting rides. There are countless ways to spend a unique vacation in sprawling Nevada.

Festivals & events in Nevada

Nevada hosts numerous events, concerts, festivals and other events every year that you shouldn’t miss as a visitor. For you we have listed the most important and beautiful events in 2017 that will enrich your vacation in Nevada.

Reno Rodeo

Reno, June 15-24: Every year more than 100,000 people flock to Reno to watch the daring cowboys at the “wildest rodeo” in the United States. The 10-day event includes the disciplines of Bull Riding, Cattle Drives, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing and many more. You can also look forward to an attractive supporting program for young and old.

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival

Lake Tahoe, July 8th – August 27th: Summer, sun, Shakespeare – this is how you can imagine the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Those who have always wanted to sit on one of the most beautiful lakes in the USA with a fantastic bottle of wine and freshly prepared gourmet snacks with friends and family and are at the same time a friend of the pieces of old Shakespeare – should not miss the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival!

Burning Man

Black Rock City, August 28 – September 04: The Burning Man Festival, held every year in the Black Rock Desert in northwest Nevada, is one of the most legendary festivals in the world. Tens of thousands are transforming the desert into perhaps the craziest metropolis in the world, the Black Rock City. It is about art, self-sufficiency, self-expression – and of course about burning the disproportionate “man” figure.

Great Reno Balloon Race

Reno, September 8-10th: The annual Great Reno Ballon Race is considered the largest free hot air balloon meeting in the world. More than 100 balloons – from very unusual design models to streamlined high-speed balloons – will start again this September from the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in the early morning hours while tens of thousands of spectators cheer you on the ground. Be there too!

Nevada Day Celebration

Carson City, October 26-28: Every October, the attention of many “Nevadans” is devoted to their capital Carson City, home of the official Nevada Day Parade. The state has been celebrating its admission to the United States since October 31, 1864 since 1938. Look forward to a great parade, music and art performances, good food and lots of fun. Celebrate with us too!

Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

Las Vegas, December 7th – 12th: At the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, the creme de la creme of rodeo sports fights for the national title. The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, with $ 5.5 million, is the world’s most prestigious rodeo event. The champions will be chosen for ten days at the Thomas Mack Center in Las Vegas.
