According to Ehangzhou, the ocean, sand and sun are the main factors when visiting Miami, especially Miami Beach. Easy to reach with direct KLM flights. Miami has always been a weird city. The ties with Cuba are so strong that the whole city radiates a Hispanic-like atmosphere, but a very different one from, for example, San Antonio in Texas or Los Angeles in California.

Little Havana still has the traditional coffee shops and shops, but most of the Cuban immigrants have left for the suburbs. That does not alter the fact that Miami is an interesting city, unique in its kind. The Art Deco hotels of Miami Beach are well known and as beautiful as they look in the pictures, pastel colored buildings from the 1920s and 1930s. Miami Beach is all the rage in recent years. Many terraces to look and be seen, many famous stars, many discotheques and clubs. And if you like shopping, Miami is also the place to be. From Miami it is easy to make a trip to the Everglades. You will not be bored on the beach either, there is plenty of entertainment and there are various sports options and the beaches are great.

Climate in Miami

In January the average temperature is 19.6 °C, in July it is 28.1 °C. Annual average rainfall is 1420.1 mm (data based on the measurement period 1961-1990). Miami is located in the extreme south of Florida. It is located in a subtropical area, where temperatures are high all year round. Temperatures below 15 degrees are uncommon in Miami. Another characteristic of a subtropical region is that extremely high temperatures are absent.

The temperature felt in Miami is extremely high in summer, and it seems that it is well above forty degrees. In reality, the temperature rarely exceeds 34 degrees. This is due to the high humidity in the subtropics. The highest temperature ever recorded in Miami is 98 F. This equals 36.7 degrees.

Nights are downright warm in Miami. From March to the end of November, the average night temperature is at or above 20 degrees. The maximum night temperature almost never falls below 20 degrees. Occasionally this happens, but then it doesn’t get much colder than 18 degrees. These ‘cold’ days never last long. Usually such a period lasts about two days. This only occurs during winters when cold fronts from the north blow Canadian Arctic air south. In spring, summer and autumn, the minimums hardly ever fall below 20 degrees.

Seasons

There are roughly two seasons in Miami, a rainy season and a dry season. The rainy season runs from May to October, and the dry season from November to April. The rainy season more or less coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to December 1. In the rainy season it does not rain all day, in the afternoon rain and thunderstorms form with a lot of rain. As much water can fall in such a rain shower as in a month in the Netherlands. These showers do not last long and ensure that the oppressive heat is moderated in the afternoon.

Miami is regularly hit by tropical storms and hurricanes, causing great inconvenience to the population. Typically, it is the Cape Verde storms that hit Miami, which form from August to October. The peak of the hurricane season is on September 15. Governments warn the public if a storm is heading for Miami by means of a Hurricane Watch (chance of a hurricane within 36 hours) or a Hurricane Warning (probability of a hurricane within 24 hours). There are public shelters in various places where people can sit out the storm if necessary.
