Economy South Carolina
The agricultural sector, traditionally based on cotton and rice, represents the basis of the state economy, even if the industry has assumed greater prominence, thanks to a series of tax and employment initiatives that have increased production. The main manufacturing activity is the textile one which includes numerous companies located in the north-western area of the state.
Despite foreign competition, the secondary sector was able to differentiate its business by strengthening the chemical, food and paper processing industries. The main agricultural products are represented by tobacco, soy, corn and dairy products. Cotton is one of the most widespread crops such as wheat and peaches. Mining is small and provides vermiculite, kaolin and various building materials. Tourism is one of the fastest growing economic sectors, thanks above all to the wealth of natural resources.
