BEACH REST

The mild subtropical climate with cool summer sea breezes, clean mountain air and lush vegetation – that’s what attracts many tourists every year. Rest here is not only relaxing, but also healing. The local climate is favorable for the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous systems, respiratory organs, and also has a healing effect on the body as a whole. The main resorts of Abkhazia are Gagra, Pitsunda and Gudauta. Most of the beaches on the coast are municipal, they are composed of pebbles, and the seabed drops sharply from the coast.
Gagra
Resort Gagra located 22 km from Sochi airport. Gagra is the warmest and driest place on the entire Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. The local beaches are small-pebble. Holidays here are suitable for both families with children and young people. A wide promenade stretches along the coastline of Gagra, on which there are numerous bars, restaurants and clubs. In the center of the city there is an Aquapark, where a large number of attractions are offered.
Pitsunda

All beaches of Pitsunda sandy, and coastal waters are considered the cleanest on the coast of Abkhazia. The popularity of the resort was brought by the Pitsundo-Myussersky Reserve, which is adjacent to the village and stretches for 7 km along the coast. A unique pine grove with an area of more than 200 hectares is protected in the reserve. About 27 thousand relic Pitsunda pines grow here. Pine trees fill the mountain and sea air with ozone, which has a healing effect on the human body. Not far from the reserve is a boxwood grove.

DIVING
In recent years, diving centers have begun to open in Abkhazia, because the coastal waters of the republic, as well as its numerous lakes and caves, attract many divers here. First of all, diving enthusiasts are interested in flooded ancient citiesthat existed during the Roman Empire in the 2-1 centuries BC. Such towns include Dioscuria near Sukhumi, Anakopia near New Athos, and Pitiund near Pitsunda. The diving depth here varies from 10 to 50 m. In the coastal waters of Abkhazia, sunken ships of Ancient Rome lie at the bottom of the sea, as well as ships and aircraft of a new history, so you can also do wreck diving here.
Very interesting dives on Lake Ritsa and Blue Lake. The diving depth in the lakes can reach 90 m. Also in Abkhazia a very difficult type of diving is offered – speleo diving, which involves diving through karst lakes into cave grottoes. The depth of immersion during caving diving reaches 70-80 m.
FISHINGÂ in Abkhazia
You can do both river and sea fishing. In the Bzyb, Gumista, Kelasuri and Kodori rivers, salmon, trout, barbel, black-bellied and chub are caught, and on the Black Sea coast – horse mackerel, sturgeon, red mullet and flounder.
TREATMENT
All the coastal resorts of Abkhazia are considered to be curative because of their microclimate, because they combine clean mountain air, which is rich in negatively charged ions, and sea air, rich in sea salts and oxygen. In addition, mineral water springs were discovered in the mountains of the republic, on the basis of which numerous sanatoriums and health centers were created.
Climatic procedures are the main factors in the treatment and prevention of various diseases. These procedures include air baths, sunbathing and sea bathing, which are combined with therapeutic exercises and dosed walking. Climatotherapy in the cool season has a special character. It is carried out on special climate-therapeutic sites, where a special procedure is used – aerial photography (air baths combined with general ultraviolet irradiation).
For treatment, general physiotherapeutic methods of treatment and balneotherapy are also used. which include taking baths with mineral water from local sources. Abkhaz sources were known as early as the time of the Roman Empire, as evidenced by the inscriptions on ancient Roman maps. Today, the resorts of the republic offer radon, oxygen, carbon dioxide and pearl baths. From the mineral waters of Abkhazia “Avadkhara” near Lake Ritsa, Sukhumi, Gudauta and Tkvarchali mineral waters are especially distinguished. Mineral water “Avadhara” is a medium mineralized, pH-neutral, bicarbonate sodium (soda) mineral water. It has a wide therapeutic effect in chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, chronic colitis and enterocolitis, chronic diseases of the liver and biliary tract, iron deficiency anemia. Sukhum mineral waters are saturated with nitrogen, these are nitrogen sulfate-chloride-sodium-calcium and weakly hydrogen sulfide methane waters. Also near Sukhumi radioactive and mud sources were found. In the vicinity of Gudauta, there are hydrogen sulfide, sodium chloride and iodine-bromine springs, and weakly radioactive mineral springs were found near the city of Tkvarchali.
